Baselworld 2012 Spotlight: Hublot Big Bang Ferrari Watch!

The official unveiling of the watch that makes you wish you could rev time. Last November was the announcement of the collaboration between famous sports car manufacturer Ferrari and acclaimed watchmaker Hublot. This is truly a great paring.

Hublot introduces a new material on this watch they developed called “Magic Gold,” which is a scratch resistant alloy of gold and ceramic used for the case. The case at 45.5 mm in diameter is also slightly larger than the previous Big Bang models and is the first alteration of the Big Bang case since it was introduced in 2005. Take look at their previous Big Bang model to compare at our Hublot Big Bang Black & Steel page.

There are endless amounts of inspiration from Ferrari including a new rotor added to resemble one of the wheels of a Ferrari wheel. Other notable Ferrari theme includes the minute counter that appear as a tachometer and carbon fiber inserts on the side of the case. Not only the Ferrari logo is marked on the profile of the watch but Ferrari’s famous Cavallino can be found at 9 o’clock to give it the humble presence of the brand’s legacy.

The watch also comes with two interchangeable straps that are made to be quickly replaced inspired by a car’s seat belt function. They have even added influences from the interior upholstery of a Ferrari to the stitching found on the watch straps. The Ferrari Big Bang is also available in a Titanium as well. This is a remarkable collaboration that highlights the brilliance and precision of both brands as well as their capabilities of marvelous execution in their trade.

Baselworld 2012 Spotlight: DeWitt Twenty-8-Eight Skeleton Watch!

What’s not to love about skeleton watches? They show off all the intricacies of a watch movement and are still beautiful to look at. That’s why today’s Baselworld feature is showing off the latest release from DeWitt, the Twenty-8-Eight Skeleton watch.

This exquisite watch design shows off what DeWitt is known for, the first 100 percent manufacture movement through a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. The movement is a DW8028 Calibre hand-winding movement with an integrated tourbillon complication.

With a movement as intricate as this, it’s no wonder that DeWitt opted to show it off with a skeletonized dial. Several elements of the skeleton dial design hark back to an Art Deco influence, including the barrel at the 12 o’clock position (inspired by vintage steering wheels) and the bridges across the tourbillon in the 6 o’clock position.

This geometric Art Deco theme is also carried to the baguette diamonds set in the 18 karat white gold version of this watch. The 36 baguette diamonds are only set in the white gold version of the Twenty-8-Eight Tourbillon Skeleton watch.

The flange in this version is also set with eight round-cut white diamonds and the engraved DeWitt “W” signature that help server as hour markers. The rose gold version of this watch only has the engraved “W” signature.

This watch stays true to the entire philosophy of DeWitt, which is an adherence to classical watchmaking with a modern flair in design. It’s pieces like this that sum up where DeWitt watches have come from and exactly where they’re going to go.
